An Announcement on the Passing of Director Jeff Weiss
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our Library Director, Jeff Weiss. Jeff passed away Friday, July 24th from complications of a medical event.
The director of a public library is often an unsung hero in the community the library serves. They work behind the scenes, wearing many hats, supporting the staff, the board, the patrons, and the community. Any public library creates a sense of comfort in the city where it is located. It's a hub of activities, a resource for knowledge, a safe space for camaraderie, and it contributes to the identity of the city itself.
Jeff Weiss was one of Scappoose’s unsung heroes. In his tenure as the Director of the Scappoose Public Library, he worked countless hours, often giving his own free time, to ensure there was never a gap in services. His commitment to his role and the people he served is largely why the Scappoose Public Library is as successful as it is today.
There was no job or task too big or too small for Jeff. He did it all. Those who knew him knew that he was a quiet and very gentle human being. He understood what we as a community needed, and often provided answers before we even had time to formulate the questions. That is the mark of a strong leader. Someone concerned about the welfare of others before themself. The number of lives Jeff touched by offering assistance is too numerous to capture in a tribute to him. He treated all individuals equally, and he believed anyone entering those library doors was someone the library could help.
We share the community’s feeling of loss, we miss Jeff, and we will strive to carry on the incredible impact he made on all of us.
