Oregon obituaries can be found in The Oregonian newspaper. Both Multnomah County Public Library and the Knight Library (at the University of Oregon) microfilm these newspapers. If you know the date your family member's obituary appeared in print, Scappoose Public Library can usually borrow these microfilm canisters through our inter-library loan program.

Books on genealogy can be found in both the Reference and Adult Nonfiction sections of our library. Search within the 929 subject headings or ask a library staff member for assistance.

The Lower Columbia County Genealogical Society has put out a brochure entitled Columbia County, Oregon Ancestors - Where to Find Them. This has helpful lists of where to find information about local people who lived in Cowlitz County, Washington and Columbia County, Oregon. The Society also provides genealogical research assistance to visitors to the Longview Public Library each Wednesday from 1-3 p.m.
