February - Supporting Others

Starting April 2021 and lasting for one year, each month the Scappoose Public Library will spotlight a new social-emotional skill for early learners. From empathy to responsibility to resiliency, we'll focus on some most important skills for your little one to practice. We'll have books to read together, activities for kids to explore, and information for parents. Thank you to the NW Early Learning Hub for a generous grant which will help fund this endeavor! February is dedicated to Supporting Others.

Engage with your child about Supporting Others:

  • Talk with your child about what bullying looks like and what they should do if they see someone who is being bullied. Let them know that in this situation it's important for them to tell a trusted adult what is happening.
  • Role-play with your child so they have practice with what to do in different situations. What if their friend is the one doing the bullying? What should they say? Who should they tell if they see someone being bullied on the playground? Try out a a variety of scenarios.
  • Discuss with your child different ways to be a good friend, especially when someone is hurting. Give examples of ways you support your friends when they are in need.
